The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
